Talking about the Mirror of the Moon Goddess to our friend and actor Alexander Schottky in Los Angeles, he invited us to sit in on his acting class. This class is hosted by well-known actor Graham Beckel. WOW, what a gift. There were several actors performing an arrangement of pieces. They would perform a piece, get direct feedback on it how to make it even better, and then perform the same piece again, while implementing the suggestion.
Graham Beckel’s feedback was uncanny. He has a sharp eye for the brilliance and knows exactly how the actors can improve the weaker parts in what he has just seen. His feedback comes from a heartfelt place to make it better and see the actors shine. In this case by adding another person on stage to make the performance more genuine (by having someone to address it to, or to point at).
Until now I have only seen the end result of shows, the final version as it were. To see the preparation was very exciting and exactly right for me at this stage in the process. I have written a large part of the show now but so far have been unable to picture how I want it to look on a stage.
Last night gave me a hands on experience of three important things:
1) how lines on a piece of paper are brought to life by the actors: and
2) how the actors use the stage and
3) how the stage can be used to enhance the message.
With this new knowledge, I’ll work through the material again, now with 3D vision for more impact. Very cool, thanks Graham & Alexander!
